There are paintings and art which we know, which we have already seen without paying it too much attention and that belong to what we call our « collective memory ». That’s exactly by this fact, everybody knows them, have already seen them somewhere, that we do not take time to stop a moment and have a new look on it. While going through my primitive’s book I saw again the « Virgo to the child » of Fouquet. I was very surprised by my reaction. This time, this work did not remind to me in XV century, or in the gothic painting age. By its colours and its treatment this painting seemed to me very contemporary and at the same time universal for have crossed all these centuries. I did not think then either of Fra Angelico, or the Flemish artists. The only thing I had in my mind was this series « the doll » of Shawn Barber and the impressive Pandora of Michael Hussar… something happened.

Il y a des œuvres que l’on connaît, que l’on a déjà vus sans trop y prêter attention et qui appartiennent à notre mémoire collective. C’est justement parce que tout le monde les connaît, les a déjà vu quelque part, qu’on ne prend pas le temps de s’y arrêter et de poser dessus un nouveau regard. C’est en feuilletant mes livres sur les primitifs que je suis à nouveau tombé sur la Vierge à l’enfant de Fouquet. Je fus assez surprise de ma réaction. Cette fois, cette œuvre ne me renvoyait pas à la peinture gothique de cette époque. Par ses couleurs et son traitement cette peinture m’apparaissait d’un coup véritablement contemporaine et en même temps assez universelle pour avoir traversé tous ces siècles. Je ne pensais alors ni à Fra Angelico, ni aux artistes flamands. Je n’avais à l’esprit que cette série « the doll » de Shawn Barber et l’imposante Pandora de Michael Hussar…quelque chose se produit.
